Collage on Wood
16.25’ x10.75’
Claudia Calle is a multi-disciplinary artist from Colombia based in Miami. She studied photography and graphic design at the Caldas University in Colombia (1993 - 1996), the Audiovisual Art Center in Mexico (1996 – 1997) and the Miami AD School (2000 – 2002), as well as completing a Masters in Spiritual Science (2010-2012). After years in design and commercial photography, she decided to expand her work in ways that would allow her subjective vision as an artist to come forth.

Her mediums range from photography and painting to illustration and sculpture, always open to the use of non-conventional materials, most notably, her collage and photo processing on wood. The pervasive use of layering, repetition and typography in her work reveals patterns similar to those on a brand name or monogrammed wallpaper. The fine art aspect of her work blends with commercial undertones, giving meaning to the medium and by extension, impacting her concepts as a whole.

She is the recipient of numerous awards including first place International Photography Awards in the Fine Art / Collage Pro category with her series “People’s Republic of China” (2010). Calle’s collection was chosen among over 15,000 submissions from 103 countries and sold 14 of the 19 pieces at the Solo Show in Fabrika Art Space (2009). She also received two honorable mentions by the International Photography Awards with her series “Living in Silence” and “Between Frontier: The Longneck Story” (2009). She was recognized in “Five Minutes of Fame” by the Museum of Contemporary Art (2009) and in Photographer’s Forum “Top 100 Best Photography Worldwide” (2002).

She has exhibited her work at the Splash Light Studios (SOHO, NY), Mexican-American Cultural Center (Austin, TX), Luis Pérez Galería (Solo Show, Wynwood Arts District, FL), The Center for Fine Art Photography (Colorado, UT), ArteAméricas (Miami, FL) and Tequila Herradura / Ocean Drive Magazine’s “Miami Dish” (Miami Beach, FL). Most recently, her work was selected by the USA Embassy in Bangkok to be part of the “Everyday Life” exhibition celebrating 180 Years of friendship with Thailand.
